Optimism Prevails in Trevon Martin Case
Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 3:25PM By Dr. Russ,
Last night the special prosecutor in Florida assigned to the Trevon Martin case issued a warrant for the arrest of George Zimmerman the self confessed killer who claimed self defense in the name of his neighborhood watch duties. It has been over a month since the 17 year old teenager was shot and killed and Zimmerman released on the basis of the Florida, “Stand Your Ground Law.”
Are you asking: Where is the optimism in this story? Here are five reasons for optimism.
- The optimism is grounded in the fact that we live in a country that guarantees freedom of the press. In this case the press was relentless in the pursuit of justice in the face of what clearly appeared to be a travesty of it.
- Yes, the fact that Zimmerman was not initially arrested smacked of ongoing “institutional racism” in this country. But, before the advent of the civil rights movement and the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, no arrest would have been made initially or now. We have HOPE thanks to the work of King and others some fifty years ago.
- Optimism is grounded in effort and hard work because without our endurance and striving nothing would be accomplished. The hard work of current day civil rights leaders, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and others resulted in protest marches in Florida, D.C. and other places around the country.
- The news media never gave up in its relentless pursuit of facts that would clarify what happened that night and create a national fervor for justice. Optimists never give up.
- We now have the blessing of our justice system. No system of justice is perfect, but ours, by most accounts, assures the fairest approach by guaranteeing equal justice for all regardless of race or religious belief. Now instead of the daily trying of the case in the news media, it will be handled in court, by court rules. There will be much less publicity, but there will be a chance for fairness to be made available to all parties including George Zimmerman.
This story adheres to the Dr. Russ "Optimism Formula:"
- OPTIMISM = HOPE + HARD WORK + BLESSINGS THAT COME WITH EFFORT

Hi there,
Because you seem to care about this case, and I am sure are more able to find the proper people to contact, I would like to submit an idea that 'maybe', just maybe no one has thought about before...
The murderer, Zimmerman, is claiming 'self defense' by that "stand your ground law", right ?
Well, how about this... Perhaps, Trevon could have been using the same law, and it unfortunately led to his murder.
If it is true that Trevon allegedly attacked Zimmerman, here is why...
Follow: Trevon was being followed in the dark by someone WITH A GUN, and Trevon, fearing for his life "stood his ground", attacking Zimmerman in fear for and defense of, his LIFE. Perhaps, Trevon was using the "stand your ground law" THEREFORE, Zimmerman's using that law as a defense would be moot.
If anyone had a right to be afraid, it was Trevon. If anyone had a right to stand his ground and fight, in defense of his life, it was Trevon.
Please see to it that SOMEONE in his defense counsel hears this idea that popped into my head one night when speaking with my dad.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Gregory.
The Trayvon Martin case con't to show divided justice system including Sgt. Lee in Florida. He did not care and cover it up with a statement that he too has a son and he is aware of the loss. It is a fact if his son was in the same environment of Zimmerman an his kid got shot, he would had immediately corrected his perception / reality!!! Many are aware of bias officals or double standard officals who betray law but are really in the game for self gain ( personal gain) also called their fringe benefit..... Zimmerman appears to be a selffish control hog who thinks stereo type or non blacks should reside in HIS community.... Zimmerman made sure this little tot compared to his hudge size did not make it home!!! Zimm is not telling everything and why should he want to hang himself ? Zimm had his eyes on the kid prior to him getting back to home that is why he was waiting for him / gun. The current judge is not the best selected, his unnecessary remark of b u c k board (see dictionary) was bias intimidation. Change of venue needs to be done or a request to just remove himself from the law. He aleady stated he does not care about Zimm's background - the bail is cheap and what does that tell ya for the next go round???
Trevon was over 6 feet tall. If he was attacking Zimmerman, than he was in rights to defend himself. If a 6'1 black/yellow/brown/white person was trying to fight me I wouldn't ask how old they are, I would defend myself, too. It's a shame that somebody lost a life, but there are things in the story that the media didn't tell us. There is a witness on Zimmermans behalf who saw everything and Treyvon was into "thug life" and those will play an important roll in this case.
